How to look after your home in these colder months
With Winter well and truly underway we thought we’d share a few tips with you on how to look after your home in these colder months.
We all know water expands as it freezes, if this happens in pipes this can cause them to burst.
- Make sure you drain any water from outside taps, hoses or sprinkler systems
- Protect any water pipes that run through unheated areas with insulation
TOP TIP: KNOW WHERE YOUR STOPCOCK IS SO YOU CAN SHUT YOUR WATER OFF IN AN EMERGENCY.
Prepare your outside space, as this can take a serious battering during times of bad weather.
- Secure all rubbish bins
- Clear gutters of any debris to ensure water can drain away from the property
- Ensure any sheds are locked and store garden furniture away
Everyone wants to keep their home warm and toasty during these months.
- Give your radiators some tlc. If they are cold at the top and hot at the bottom they need bleeding.
- Make sure your boiler has been serviced and is running correctly, there is nothing worse than having boiler problems during these months
- Buy some draught excluders for any windows or doors that are letting in the chilly air. These can be purchased relatively cheap online and are very effective at keeping your home warm
- Make sure your fire and chimney have had a professional sweep to get rid of any other debris that could catch fire
